Kevin Thomsen Owner/Operator
Kevin Thomsen grew up in Marquette, MI graduating from MSHS in 1998. Kevin's love for athletics and helping others was established working at his family's iconic sport shop, Johnson's. Kevin graduated with his Bachelors from NMU in 2004. In 2015 he decided to branch out and open Queen City Running Co.
So what is his happy pace? The Hoka One One Clifton 3- providing support and comfort needed to chase around his most important blessings, daughters Anna and Aili and the his dachshund Coco Puff.
John Thomsen Staff
John joined QCRC this year after a 45 year career as owner and operator of the iconic Johnsons Sports Center in Marquette. John is truly one of the best and believes in everything customer service. With his wealth of experience and knowledge John takes much pride in going above and beyond to find the perfect fit for his customers.
When John is not at the shop you can find him out for a long walk rain or shine along the bike path with his wife Sandy, dog Taffey, and possibly one of his 7 grandchildren. He loves local sports and can be heard in the morning on his daily radio sports talk show or in the evening broadcasting a high school hockey, basketball, baseball, football, well you get the picture. Stop by and say to John anytime… He loves to chat and see all of his old customers!
Daniel Bell Staff
Dan is a newer addition to the Marquette area coming to us from Kalamazoo, MI. He is a senior at NMU and plans to pursue a coaching career in the NCAA. He ran two years for Lake Superior State University and has a general love for running and the Upper Peninsula. Dan's goal is to get people out and on their feet! He is very passionate about the sports of cross country and track and field and loves talking to beginners or experts about the sport.
Alicia Fure Staff
Alicia is a 2001 graduate from Marquette and has her Master's Degree in Education. She spends the bulk of her time with children -both her own children and the children of Sandy Knoll Elementary school- where she teaches first grade. Alicia enjoys being outdoors in the sunshine and being active. She is on her feet often and struggles with knee and foot issues. This allows her to understand the importance of high quality footwear and support. She is a good listener and easy to talk to and will work hard to find shoes and products that take you to your happy pace.
Kelsey Holmberg Staff
Kelsey is a transplant Yooper from the Twin Cities. She moved to Marquette with her husband in the fall of 2015 after receiving her BA in Business Management from Luther College in Decorah, IA. She has run Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN twice and hopes to qualify for Boston some day. Kelsey is currently enjoying all the trails Marquette has to offer and all the new places to explore! Recommendations are welcome! Kelsey loves helping our customers find the shoe that works for them so they can enjoy the outdoors and great views of the UP as much as she does.
Sloan Dorr Staff
After 3 years in Chicago, Sloan is super excited to be living somewhere with trails again! She graduated from GVSU in 2010 and has since become a Certified Personal Trainer and has worked in footwear for nearly 10 years! Sloan has raced on the East coast, West coast, Midwest and overseas; distances ranging from 5k-50k to 100 mile Adventure races. She's looking to get back at it and find a fun and adventurous community here in Marquette.
Kelly Pietrzak Staff
Born and raised in Bay City, Michigan, Kelly took the leap to move up to the U.P. in 2014. She's been competing in road races since she was in first grade and now runs for Northern Michigan's XC and Track team! Kelly's going into her senior year at NMU majoring in Sports Science with a minor in Physical/Occupational therapy. After graduation, she hopes to continue her education at NMU studying Exercise Science to follow through with PT or coaching. Kelly's passionate towards helping others whether it's coaching kids, giving advice for trail runs, creating training plans for beginner runners, or even better yet helping costumers at QCRC find the perfect fit for shoes. Once her eligibility is through running for Northern, Kelly plans to train for marathons with the goal to qualify for Boston. When she's not in the shop, running, or at school, you'll find her out adventuring the U.P!
